Students' writing
Publishing students' thinking is a way of signalling to everyone that mathematical reasoning is valued. Stories about learning may be written by students (or by the teachers of younger students) for a class display.
Here are some other ideas to encourage students to write about their thinking.
- Write to a friend who has missed a mathematics class to explain what occurred.
- Write an explanation of … for a class or school newsletter.
- Write to an email friend (matched up between schools or countries) to explain something just learned in mathematics.
A learning story
Learning stories written by students can provide a lot of information about their reasoning.
