Making mathematical connections
A UK study involving more than 2000 students found that the approach to teaching that led to the greatest gains in learning was 'connectionist'.
The connectionist orientation places a strong emphasis on developing reasoning and justification, as students are encouraged to make mathematical connections and to make their thinking about these explicit.
What do connectionist teachers do?
Connectionist teachers place a strong emphasis on connecting various strands of mathematical thinking.
