# Is this a hexagon?

Most students can recognise and name the two shapes below as hexagons. However, they should be correctly described as **regular** hexagons.

Some students will believe that "a regular hexagon has six equal sides". However, for a hexagon with six equal sides to be regular, it must also have six equal angles. Students should understand that a regular hexagon has six equal sides and six equal angles.

These are also hexagons.
